Yamaha is recalling MT-09 and Tracer 9 motorcycles equipped with its Y-AMT system in Japan and Finland after identifying a possible gearshift shaft failure.

According to Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency, the Japanese recall covers 1,289 motorcycles, including the MT-09 S and the Japanese-market equivalent of the MT-09 Y-AMT, as well as the Tracer 9 GT+ Y-AMT. The affected units were built between June 10, 2024 and August 19, 2026.

Yamaha said the corrective action is to replace the existing gearshift shaft with an improved part. The Japanese recall was announced on September 29, 2026.

Finland has also listed a recall covering 40 MT-09 and Tracer 9 motorcycles fitted with Y-AMT, under campaign code MC320, with the campaign scheduled to begin on October 13, 2026. Paultan noted that there are currently no Yamaha Y-AMT motorcycles sold in Malaysia.

What it means for you: Malaysian riders do not appear to be affected by this recall, but workshops handling Yamaha imports should check whether any unit matches the recalled Y-AMT models and production dates.
