The Transport Ministry will begin distributing a one-off RM1,000 aid to taxi, hired car and school bus drivers on Wednesday. The first batch will receive vouchers at the ministry, with payments rolled out in stages.

PUTRAJAYA — The Transport Ministry will start handing out a one-off RM1,000 cash aid to taxi, hired car and school bus drivers on Wednesday.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the first batch will receive vouchers at the ministry, and the distribution will continue in stages. The government wants eligible Hindu drivers to receive the aid before Deepavali.

He said the support can be delivered before Budget 2027 is approved because the funding has already come in this year. The money will be channelled from the proceeds of the special vehicle registration number series ‘H’.

Loke said the programme covers 38,000 taxi and hired car drivers and 15,000 school bus drivers nationwide, with a total allocation of RM91 million. He also said the ministry is preparing legal amendments related to compensation for drunk- or drug-impaired drivers, which it hopes to table in Parliament next year.

What it means for you: If you drive a taxi, hired car or school bus, check your eligibility and payment schedule so you do not miss the staged distribution.
