Transport Minister Anthony Loke says the one-off RM1,000 aid for taxi and rental car drivers will start being distributed in phases from Wednesday. About 38,000 taxi and rental car drivers are covered under the scheme, with the government using revenue from H-series number plate sales.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the one-off RM1,000 special financial aid for taxi and rental car drivers will begin distribution in phases starting Wednesday. The first group will be invited to the Transport Ministry to receive vouchers, before other recipients are handled in stages.
Loke said the aid covers about 38,000 taxi and rental car drivers. He added that the government wants the payments delivered quickly so eligible Hindu drivers can receive the assistance before Deepavali.
He also said the money is coming from revenue already collected through the sale of H-series special registration numbers. According to the reports he cited, that revenue has already been received this year.
The minister said the scheme is being rolled out from existing funds, rather than from next year’s budget. The ministry has also indicated that the disbursement process will continue in later phases until all eligible drivers are covered.
What it means for you: If you are a taxi or rental car driver, check with the relevant agencies or your association, because eligible recipients will be paid in stages without needing a fresh application.
