Puspakom says it supports JPJ’s crackdown on an alleged tyre rental scheme in Gebeng, Kuantan. The practice is said to help commercial vehicles pass mandatory inspections by temporarily fitting roadworthy tyres.
Puspakom has voiced support for enforcement action by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) over an alleged tyre rental scheme in Gebeng, Kuantan. The case was uncovered during Ops Bengkel, a joint operation by JPJ Pahang and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).
According to the report, some operators were allegedly renting roadworthy tyres for inspection purposes, with charges said to be between RM100 and RM150 per vehicle. The tyres were temporarily fitted so the vehicles could pass mandatory checks.
Puspakom said such a practice defeats the purpose of periodic inspections for commercial vehicles. If the tyres fitted during inspection are not the same as those used on the road, the inspection result no longer reflects the vehicle’s real condition.
The issue is relevant to lorry operators, workshops and inspection-related service providers. It also reinforces that inspection standards are being enforced more tightly, especially for commercial vehicles that depend on valid Puspakom certification.
What it means for you: workshops and fleet owners should avoid temporary part-swapping tricks before inspection, because JPJ and Puspakom are clearly watching tyre compliance more closely.
