Chery says about 48% of its exports this year are already built outside China, and it wants that share to pass 50% by year-end. The company’s longer-term target is 60% by 2027 and 70% by 2030.

Chery says it wants a much larger share of its export vehicles to be assembled outside China. EVP Zhang Guibing said about 48% of the brand’s exports this year are already not built in China, with the target to pass 50% by the end of 2026.

The company’s next milestones are 60% CKD exports by 2027 and 70% by 2030. Zhang said the plan is to localise production step by step and rely more on local manufacturing.

He added that Chery’s goal is not only to sell vehicles overseas, but also to create jobs and cooperate with local technologies. The comments were made at an event in Wuhu, China, according to Reuters.

Chery also said it plans to build fast-charging and energy storage stations in several countries from 2027, and to launch robotaxis in the UAE from next year.

What it means for you: More CKD production usually means more local assembly activity, which may create work for Malaysian suppliers, workshops and parts businesses if Chery expands here.
