MITI says Automotive High-Tech Valley in Tanjong Malim has realised RM7 billion in investments since 2018, with its workforce now at 9,300. The ministry expects that number to rise to 22,800 by 2030.

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) says the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim has realised RM7 billion in investments since 2018. Deputy minister Sim Tze Tzin gave the update in the Dewan Rakyat on 27 October 2026.

He said the RM7 billion includes contributions from Geely and represents 23.3% of the estimated RM30 billion overall development value for AHTV through 2035. MITI stressed that the RM30 billion figure is a development estimate, not fully realised investment.

According to the ministry, AHTV’s workforce has grown from about 2,000 employees in 2018 to 9,300 this year, and is projected to reach 22,800 by 2030. The number of companies operating in the valley has also risen from 11 in 2022 to 35 this year.

MITI said major completed projects include upgrades to Proton’s Tanjong Malim facilities, covering metal stamping, painting, body assembly and final assembly. The upgrades also include new-generation engines and transmissions, plus a 12-megawatt peak solar farm within Proton’s manufacturing complex.

What it means for you: AHTV’s expansion means more local automotive activity, supplier opportunities and industry jobs, especially for workshops and parts-related businesses in Perak and beyond.
