MOT disburses RM1,000 aid to taxi, hire car and school bus drivers

The Transport Ministry has begun releasing a one-off RM1,000 aid for taxi, hire car and school bus drivers in stages. The first distribution in the northern region was held at Dewan Sri Pinang.

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has continued the rollout of a one-off RM1,000 special contribution for taxi, hire car and school bus drivers. The first northern-region handover programme was held at Dewan Sri Pinang yesterday, according to the ministry’s statement.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke officiated the event as part of a nationwide, phased distribution plan. MOT said the aid is meant to ease the financial burden of drivers and recognise their contribution to Malaysia’s land transport sector.

The ministry also said the assistance was planned to help drivers prepare for the Deepavali period. The phased rollout will continue in other parts of the country.

MOT said the special aid is being funded through proceeds from the sale of the special ‘H’ vehicle registration series, which the ministry said brought in RM91.2 million.

What it means for you: If you are a taxi, hire car or school bus operator, check with MOT on the phased payout schedule and make sure your registration and bank details are correct.
