MOT aid for taxi, rental car and school bus drivers reaches Penang
Malaysia’s Transport Ministry continued its RM1,000 cash aid programme for taxi, rental car and school bus drivers with a distribution event in Penang. The one-off assistance is being rolled out nationwide and is meant to ease living costs.
The Ministry of Transport continued its RM1,000 cash assistance programme for taxi, rental car and school bus drivers with a distribution event at Dewan Sri Pinang in Penang on October 20, 2026.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke officiated the event. The ministry said the aid is part of a phased nationwide rollout to help eligible drivers and reduce their cost-of-living burden.
The programme also aims to help recipients who are preparing for Deepavali. According to the report, the special aid was announced during Budget 2027 and is funded from proceeds of special vehicle registration numbers under the H series.
The ministry said the H-series numbers generated RM91.2 million, while the one-time payout for about 53,000 taxi, hire car and school bus drivers is expected to cost the government RM53 million.
What it means for you: If you are a taxi, rental car or school bus operator in Malaysia, check whether you are eligible for the one-off RM1,000 aid and follow MOT announcements for the next distribution phase.
