Malaysia vehicle sales fell 2.5% in September 2026

The Malaysian Automotive Association said September 2026 vehicle sales fell 2.5% month on month to 69,609 units. YTD sales still remained higher than the same period last year.

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said 69,609 vehicles were sold in September 2026. That was 1,819 units, or 2.5%, lower than the 71,428 units recorded in August 2026.

MAA said the softer month was linked to consumers taking a wait-and-see approach before the Budget 2027 announcement on October 9.

The association also said sales are expected to improve this month, helped by year-end promotions offered by companies.

For the first nine months of 2026, total vehicle sales reached 602,633 units, up 4% from 579,336 units in the same period last year. Passenger vehicle sales rose 5%, while commercial vehicle sales fell 13%.

On the production side, 64,482 vehicles were built in September 2026, slightly below August’s 64,549 units but 10% higher than a year earlier. Year to date, production totalled 562,207 units, up 2% from 2025.

What it means for you: Buyers may find more year-end deals, while workshops and dealers should expect stronger activity if promotions lift demand.
