JPJ suspends Chery Omoda 5 approvals and new registrations
JPJ has temporarily suspended the Vehicle Type Approval for the Chery Omoda 5 and stopped new registrations after a viral rear-axle incident in Johor Bahru. The move stays in place while a technical investigation and safety checks are carried out.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has temporarily suspended the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) for the Chery Omoda 5 model. The decision means new registrations of the affected model are now on hold.
JPJ said the action was taken after a viral incident in Johor Bahru involving the vehicle’s rear axle. The department described the step as a precaution while it looks into the matter.
According to JPJ, the suspension will remain until the technical investigation is completed and any safety risks are identified. The department also said the hold will only be lifted after corrective and preventive measures have been fully carried out.
This affects the model and related variants covered by the suspension. For now, the issue is not about existing owners’ paperwork, but about stopping fresh registrations until the safety review is resolved.
What it means for you: workshops and dealers should check whether any Omoda 5 stock or customer registration plans are affected before proceeding.
